TV limelight for teenage dancers

Two talented teenagers are hoping their fancy footwork will get them through to the finals of Got To Dance when they perform on Sunday.

Adina Nyahwa, 16, of Nine Elms, and Lauren Hume, 17, of Stratton, who are part of the 24-strong group Tap Attack, will be tap dancing live against six other acts in the semi-finals of the Sky1 show.

Their fate will lie solely in the hands of the public vote when they dance to Spybreak! by Propellerheads, and only two acts will make it through to the final.

The group have so far impressed the judges – Pussycat Dolls Kimberly Wyatt, Diversity frontman Ashley Banjo and star of stage and screen Adam Garcia, along with presenter Davina McCall.

Adina, who is a pupil at Bradon Forest, said they have practiced their routine for hours.

“It’s such a buzz just performing it because we enjoy performing our routine,” she said.

“We don’t go wrong a lot because we go over it lots, so it is really in our brains,” she said.

“It’s a really good opportunity to be with people that are so good at dancing and getting to know everyone there.

“I hope we have a chance of winning. Everyone is really good, so it is really good competition.”

If they win the public vote they will appear in the grand final, where they could win £250,000.

“We’re hoping to get a studio for Tap Attack so we don’t have to hire out places to
rehearse,” she said.

Lauren, a student at Cirencester College, said it would be amazing if they got through.

She said: “The opportunity to go on television and show everyone what we can do is really exciting.

“The auditions were really nerve racking.

“I am not nervous at the moment but by the middle of the week I will be.

“My mum is coming up to watch and my dad is throwing a party at home for everyone hasn’t got Sky.”

The group, which is directed by Jo Scanlan, of Nine Elms, has been running for three years and includes dancers from all over the country.
Jo said: “I am very proud, it is the first time we have done it because they are they England tap team so our concentration tends to be on that. It has been hard work because we were in preparation for the championships.

“It was very surreal watching the show on Sunday and thinking this time next week that is going to be us.”

Got To Dance will be shown on Sky1 on Sunday at 6pm.
